Ice creams and salads
Last evening, we were craving for an ice cream, so thought we would head for a walk and pick some on our way back.
On our way out from our building, we met Matt (name changed) our concierge staff and exchanged greetings. And then, I remembered he likes ice creams too.
“We’re getting ourselves some ice cream, would you like some?” I asked.
“Ohhhh, yes!! What flavors do they have!”
It’s safe to say Matt is in his 50s. The sound of ice cream, brought a smile across his face that made him look like a two-year-old excited boy. It made me smile too.
“I don’t recollect the flavors, but tell me what you like and I can check?”
He thought for a second and said, “I like rum and raisin, butter pecan..”
After a bit of back and forth, we settled for a mix of vanilla and strawberry.
“Awwwriiightttt, see you soon!” he exclaimed in glee.
We laughed and I couldn’t help but wonder, the effects of sweets and sugar that bring such excitement and joy in people’s lives.
Imagine, if on my way out, I had asked, “Hi Matt, we’re getting a salad, would you like some? What about veggies? Some asparagus?”
I can almost imagine the disappointment if I were to offer salad or vegetables to someone. They might even feel offended! “Does she think I need salad? Why does she think I need more vegetables? Do I look like I need to lose weight? Does she think I’m not healthy enough?”
Just for fun, next time that I head out, I might ask Matt if he’d like some salad. Let’s see how that experiment goes. ;)
